About

Doula Beginnings was founded by myself, Carolyn Tranter, a birth and postpartum doula, doula trainer and childbirth educator with over 30 years experience, and ‘Gamma’ to 13 precious grandbabies.

Pregnancy is such a special time in a family’s life. You only give birth a few times in your lifetime and those memories will stay with you forever.

It is my passion to make a difference in women’s lives and I have been honored over the years to be invited to support many, many women as they welcome their precious baby into their family.

I can help you to relax and enjoy the journey you are on, knowing all of your needs are met and will guide you and your partner as you make decisions for yourself, your baby and your family.

Over the years I have seen the need for professional training opportunities and ongoing guidance and support for doulas to ensure the highest quality of care for mothers and their families.

Doula Beginnings exists to improve the quality of family life which ensures healthier future generations

My mission is to make a positive difference for pregnant women and new families through education, support and advocacy, while ensuring doulas are recognised as an essential member of the birthing and parenting team through the provision of quality, comprehensive training and ongoing mentorship and support to doulas.

My vision is of a society that values family as the core of a strong community.

What Some Have To Say…

We love our families and are fully committed to make sure their journey is as relaxing and enjoyable as possible!

It is my pleasure as a professional colleague to provide this reference for Carolyn Tranter. I have worked with Carolyn in several capacities over the last 11 years. She has a long history of providing childbirth education to many expectant couples in urban and rural Manawatu. The classes and private sessions have been very well received. Carolyn has extensive experience as a doula working in all areas, antenatal, labour and birth and postnatal. She has made herself available in a timely and approachable fashion assisting the mother and family in whatever capacity is required. New Zealand’s unique maternity system and social welfare system has on occasion recognised the benefit of providing maternity support to disadvantaged women by providing funding for Carolyn to be involved in their care, for example for women with little social support, disabilities and medical or psycho social challenges. Carolyn has been very dedicated to assisting women with breastfeeding, often spending many hours with women experiencing difficulties. I have always been happy to recommend a session with Carolyn to assess and deal with concerns.

Carolyn’s support during and after the birth of our daughter was invaluable. Throughout the labour Carolyn was calm and encouraging, knowing exactly when I needed extra comfort and also when to stand back. We will definitely be calling on her assistance when baby number two comes along!

I found Carolyn to be caring and compassionate while also very efficient and knowledgeable in the area we needed. She has the ability to put people at ease even in the most intimate of situations.
